Act in a performance

On the December 12th in 2008, I participate in the 45th Anniversary Celebration of NFLS with my team members represent GCA. It took place in the Great Hall of the People near 1912 community in Nanjing, Jiangsu, R.P. China. That’s my first time do an original artistic performance in front of all the students of NFLS when I come to Grand Canadian Academic School. Also it’s a deep impression in my mind.

It was started before 2 weeks of Anniversary Celebration. One of my best friends is in order to organize this activity and she found me. She asked me if I was interested in the performance. I was agreeable to participate in. This kind of performance is to show the arts and culture, so we decide to mix the western culture and eastern culture. Therefore we set up a 8-member group, two boys were doing the Hip-hop dance and our six girls are play the Chinese instrument called Chinese Zither. The music is called “Canon”, not only fit to dance, but also easily to play by Chinese Zither.

When I stand on the stage, I found we were the only light in the world. I could not say anything around me, everything was dark and everyone was quite only the sound of music was going on. I could hear my heartbeat, I know I was nervous. Soon, the performance was down and we received with hearty rounds of applause.

From the performance, I learned many meaningful things I thought. Nothing down nothing up. Whatever we want, only put effort on it and lay store by it, otherwise you could never get it.

GUEST ARTIST

Zhao Bing, a famous landscape architect of the Nanjing Forestry University. On 1st of December, he came to our school and talked about how to appreciate the gardens. He introduced the Garden of Suzhou, and talked about the garden’s structure, sights, shapes, and texture. I was really appeared to his speech and also learned a lot from him.

As a student, I think if you ask me to appreciate the garden as an artist side, this should be difficult to me. However, the things I learned I think is useful for me. Just use the Garden of the Suzhou as an example. There are some important characteristics about the Garden of Suzhou. Firstly, pay attention to layout. The Garden of Suzhou compare with the traditional Chinese architecture, the former may full of the natural feeling. Secondly, pay attention to the pond with rockery. The Garden will be out of blood without water. It means it is necessary to have a pond or lake in a garden and it will make the garden looks more attractive and more active. Just imagine if there are many fish swimming in the pool very happily, could not you think this is very interesting and that is what the landscape garden in the pursuit of the realm.

This lesson let me learn more about how to appreciate a garden. It is not just depend on which looks beautiful or famous. We should analyze it in some different ways, and to guess how the artist wants to show us his feeling or the culture in that time. As we know, Chinese culture is extensive and profound. How to appreciate the garden is just a part of it, which to determine what the culture is. Hence, let us start right now, learn more and know more!
