Undergo a long process of volunteer work, I slowly adapt the volunteer work and even enjoy it. I volunteered doing administrative tasks for Ms. Bartell at Grand Canadian Academy at Nanjing Foreign Language School, #30 East Beijing Road, Nanjing, Jiangsu, P.R. China during term 3 from February until the end of April, 2009. I learn a lot from the volunteer work. My job is to help teachers easily to finish their work. Therefore, I have a lot of things to do, whatever these kind of things are taking all the troubles or little staff. The most troubled things such as updating excel files with student marks and grades and delivering fundraiser money to band and calculating how much money was controlled. Generally I will create PowerPoint presentations to be used in the next class and translate documents needed for primary school volunteering, The Most simple thins are alphabetizing DVD’s, replenishing water jugs, organizing drawers, keeping staff room orderly and delivering magazines to teachers, etc.
I notice that teachers are always teaching students, marking papers, planning classes, talking and teaching students how to speak English, meeting parents, and be an advisor of clubs. I found in order to be teachers the most important qualification is to have practical experience. I do the volunteer in the GCA staff room because it can give me a real experience. Teachers also have the heavily responsibility, they should to be patient when students have questions, to be kind but not too kind, organized, disciplined, extroverted, helpful and showing students the way of being mature, teach students how to be a society man or woman.
I think to be a teacher will be fine, because I think this job is quite steady, I can have this job forever if I like to. Also I believe that I may succeed and have more fun by teaching, that’s why I enjoy this kind of work. On the other hand, I feel confused because if I can do well in this job maybe I should organize myself more. In addition, I am looking forward when I grow up and to be a teacher teaching students. I think teacher may be my best way to choose because this job’s future outlook is good and needed, whatever the society change, there always need teachers to teach, therefore this kind of job is stabilized and useful, I means teacher’s mission is to teach student, they are needed.
From the volunteer work, I found the connection between the experience and employability skills, and the benefit to the community and to myself. Pay more attention on the quality, not on the speed. No matter how big or small the thing is, we must attach importance to it, put more effort on it and to be patient and careful. I realized the importance of volunteer work. It could help me to get more impression of the society; adapt the environment of society; know the status of society. I believed that I have learnt many useful skills during this volunteer work.
